    Description

Abraham Lincoln Autograph Endorsement Signed "A. Lincoln." Two pages with additional address leaf, 7.75" x 9.75", Washington, December 14, 1863. Lincoln has placed his note on the verso of letter to the president, dated December 7, 1863, from his former law partner, Judge Samuel T. Logan, writing on behalf of Mrs. Pamela Tompkins, recently widowed, who has"...two sons in the army. One now in Grant's Army at Chattanooga. Another in the Invalid Corps & now stationed at Evansville Indiana." He asks that the "...invalid, William W. Tompkins...since having been disabled by a gunshot wound and incapacitated for field service..." be discharged as "...he cannot do very efficient service any longer...[and] She is left in charge of the farm and property with only three girls and a boy two [sic] small to manage the business..."

Written just days after his signing of the Proclamation of Amnesty and Reconstruction, Lincoln writes a short note on the address leaf of the letter, stating: "Let William W. Tompkins, named within, be discharged, according to the request of my friend Judge Logan. The Judge writes the name once 'William M.' Perhaps the rolls will show." Toned with some separation along the folds. Matted and framed with an oval portrait of the president and a facsimile copy of the verso of the letter (the original can be seen on the back through a small window) and framed to an overall size of 57.5" x 23.75".

The pre and post sales experience was wonderful and flawless. Heritage has the best in-house operation I have ever seen and their people are not only professional but fun to work with, especially Steve C.

As for Heritage's online system… Yes the interface is more complex than what we are used to with SAN but what is behind that interface is amazing for sellers and buyers alike. It is real time and for a real serious auction buyer there is nothing better in the auction industry, bar none.
