Description
Abraham Lincoln Autograph Endorsement Signed "A. Lincoln" as president. One page, 3.25" x 7.75", Washington, October 23, 1862. Lincoln has placed his endorsement below a short note written by George W. Browne requesting "...Judge Hayes...for his appointment as Qr. Master." Below which the president writes: "If another Quarter Master is needed, let Judge Hays be appointed."One month prior to the president signing this endorsement, the Federal Army scored a strategic, if not decisive, victory against the rebels at Antietam, giving the Lincoln the victory he sought that would discourage England and France from siding with the Confederacy and giving him the resolve to issue his now famous Emancipation Proclamation.
Uneven toning with chipping along the left edge. Four small tack holes and circular discoloration are found in the corners. The signature is bright and bold.
