    Description

Abraham Lincoln. Autograph Document Signed three times "Benedict & Lincoln p.q." No place [Edgar Co., Ill.], October 1851, one page, folio, on faintly ruled blue paper. On verso Lincoln has written a docket with the parties' names as well as the notation "Filed Oct. 29, 1851" underneath which the court clerk has signed. Joseph Wood, in his suit against James M. Blackburn, denies that he and the defendant referred "…'the said several trespasses, and causes of action and all damages sustained by said plaintiff…to the final arbitrament and award of one Brown Wilson' in manner and form…as is… alledged" or that Wilson made "his final award, in manner and form as is…alledged…" Excellent. From the Henry E. Luhrs Collection. Accompanied by LOA from PSA/DNA.

We had a wonderful time in New York during the October 2013 Historical Manuscripts auction that featured my mother’s papers collected during her tenure as Martin Luther King, Jr.’s secretary. In fact, the entire experience from beginning to end has been a pleasure.
