    Description

Abraham Lincoln. Autograph Document Signed "Taylor & Lincoln p.q." Tazewell Co. [Ill.], no date [docketed May 1854], one-half page, folio, on ruled paper. In Betsey Fergusson vs Peter Fleming, the plaintiff objects to a plea by the defendant since it "amounts to the general issue…is not direct and positive, but argumentative" and "pleads evidence and not facts." The central portion of this document is written in an unknown hand; Lincoln has added the names of the parties, court, and the three specific causes of demurrer, making in all about 40 words in his hand, plus the signature. SEE PRECEDING THREE LOTS From the Henry E. Luhrs Collection. Accompanied by LOA from PSA/DNA.
