Abraham Lincoln Appointment Signed. One partially-printed page, 15.25" x 9.75" (sight), Washington, February 25, 1862, appointing "Henry Edwards . . . Commissioner from the State of Massachusetts" where he is to visit "the several Departments of the Army in which Volunteers from that State may be, and there procure . . . their respective allotments of their pay to their families or friends." Countersigned by Edwin M. Stanton as secretary of war. Separation along the upper horizontal and vertical folds. Spots of paper loss along the vertical fold. Spot of staining at the upper edge and another near the right edge. Several tears are seen, but do no impact the overall presentation. Matted with an engraved portrait of the president and framed to an overall size of 29.25" x 17.25". From the Donald P. Dow Collection.
