1901 Grover Cleveland Autograph Letter Signed "Grover Cleveland". One page, 4.5" x 7", December 12, 1901, in ink, to Arthur T. Abernathy. Grover Cleveland (1837-1908), 24th President of the United States, responds to Arthur Abernathy's application for a job as his secretary. It reads in part: "In reply to your letter of Nov 31st I have to say that while I am severely taxed by letters written to me, I cannot afford to employ a secretary and must struggle with them as best I can." Cleveland was well into retirement by this time at his manor in Princeton, New Jersey. The letter has the usual fold marks, else in very good condition. From the collection of Henry E.
