[Benjamin Harrison] Caroline Harrison Autograph Letter Signed "Caroline L. Harrison" and "C. L. H." Two and one-quarter pages, 4" x 6.25", Washington, May 26, 1891, on Executive Mansion letterhead to the wife of Senator John H. Reagan. First Lady Harrison invites Mr. and Mrs. Reagan to a "little musical . . . rather an informal affair." Boldly penned and signed.

One year after writing this, Caroline Harrison (1832-1892), an energetic woman who worked hard to renovate the White House during Benjamin Harrison's presidency (1889-1893), died of tuberculosis. John Reagan (1818-1905) was an important Texas politician in the nineteenth century. At the start of the Civil War, he resigned his seat as a U.S. Representative to serve his state in the Confederacy. Later during the war, he was appointed postmaster general for the Confederacy. Following the war, he represented Texas in the U.S. Senate.
