    Thomas "Stonewall" Jackson Endorsement Signed. Two pages of a bifolium, 8.5" x 10.75"; National Bridge, Mexico; July 6, 1848. Manuscript orders stating: "A Board of Survey to consist of 1st Lt. Jackson & 2d Lt. Fry (1st Ary) will meet today to examine a quantity of hard bread recently issued to 'co K', 1st Arty by the commissary at Jalapa. Francis Taylor." Signed "T.J. Jackson 1st Lt 1st Arty" below an endorsement that says that the Board met and found the bread "unfit for use & therefore recommend that it be thrown away..." Also signed by J.B. Fry.

    With two additional endorsements signed by Francis Taylor on page two requesting that the bread be thrown away and replaced.

    Jackson served with the 1st U.S. Artillery Regiment during the Mexican War, 1846-1848. He participated in the Siege of Veracruz and the battles of Contreras, Chapultepec, and Mexico City for which he earned two brevet promotions, and the rank of 1st lieutenant.

    Condition: Written on blue stationery that has discolored in some areas. Flattened folds, with tiny separations occurring at the very edges. Creasing along the right margin. Soiling on verso, where a filing docket appears. Five tabs of mounting tape remain at corners and along right margin on verso. An earlier dealer's annotation in pencil, including an arrow marking where Jackson has signed. Closed tear to the left of the original orders has a bit of paper loss not affecting any words, with corresponding paper loss to integral page.
