    Description

    Thomas Jefferson Signed Military Appointment. Single sheet on velum, 14.25" x 16.75". Washington, April 17, 1802. A document appointing [first name is illegible] Pinkney to the rank of "First Lieutenant in the First Regiment of Infantry." Boldly signed by Jefferson as president, and countersigned by Henry Dearborn as Secretary of War.

    Condition: The document has been mounted by folding the edges and applying adhesive on the verso, so only the edges are adhered. The board has bowed. Soiling throughout and pinpoints of paper loss at center flattened fold. Scattered foxing. Jefferson signature remains quite bold.
