    Thomas Jefferson Four-Languages Ship's Passport Signed "Th. Jefferson" as President. One oversized partially-printed sheet, 20.5" x 16" (sight), Providence; August 3, 1804. This passport, printed in French, Spanish, English, and Dutch authorizes passage of "Henry Gordon master or commander of the ship called Fame of the burthen 224 tons or thereabouts, lying at present in the port of Providence bound for Havana and laden with Sundry Merchandise for Clearance..."

    Countersigned by James Madison as Secretary of State and Jeremiah Olney as Collector for the Port of Providence. Paper Seal of the United States affixed at the left with red wax seal affixed at bottom left. The document is matted and framed to the overall size of 28.25" x 23.75".

    Condition: Uneven toning throughout, with flattened folds. A few small separations and tears at the folds where paper was weakened. Two small holes at the top right and center. Dampstaining spot. There is a crack through the smaller seal. Minor foxing. Bold signatures by Jefferson and Madison.
