Thomas Hodgkin Autograph Letter Signed "Thomas Hodgkin". Three pages with integral address sheet, franked by Hodgkin, 4.75" x 7.75", Tottenham, England; March 24, 1838. In a letter to the Philadelphia physician and expert in mental disorders, Pliny Earle (1809-1892), who was then studying in Paris, Hodgkin writes, in part "I trust that I need make no apology for introducing to thee my friends Dr. Curtis & Dr. Satterthwaite, both members of the Society of Friends. It is so long since I was personally acquainted with the state of the French Medical School that I feel rather at a loss in recommending them what course they should pursue on their arrival.... I shall be much obliged if thou will furnish my friends with the information & advice which I am unable to give."

Letter is accompanied by a typed transcription and a catalog description by Lion Heart Autographs from April 1992.

Condition: Letter has usual folds; otherwise very good.

Thomas Hodgkin (1798-1866) was a British physician, considered one of the most prominent pathologists of his time and a pioneer in preventive medicine. He is now best known for the first account of Hodgkins' disease in 1832.

We had a wonderful time in New York during the October 2013 Historical Manuscripts auction that featured my mother’s papers collected during her tenure as Martin Luther King, Jr.’s secretary. In fact, the entire experience from beginning to end has been a pleasure.
