    Description

Edison photograph inscribed to Day Baker, president of the Electric Motor Car Club of Boston

Thomas Edison Signed Photograph. Albumen measures 6.75" x 9.5", on a Pach Bros. mount measuring 11" x 13.5". A formal seated pose, circa 1904, inscribed on the mount below the image: "To Day Baker: I want to commend the conscientious intelligent efforts you are making, which are materially assisting in bringing about the day when the Electric Vehicle in our cities will become more common than the horse. Thomas Edison."

Day Baker served as treasurer of the Electric Vehicle Association of America and was president of the Electric Motor Car Club of Boston. He was an avid proponent of the use of electric motors to replace horses, and his Boston based company distributed various makes of electric trucks, including the Oneida Truck Co.

Edison designed the nickel-iron batteries which were used in some models of electric cars. In fact, Edison's first car was an electric powered two-seater.

Condition: Albumen is in excellent condition, with great contrast and detail. Mount has light soiling and chips at corners; top left corner has been professionally restored, reattaching a corner that had broken off. Edison's holograph is bold.
