Inventor, entrepreneur, and scientist Thomas Edison (1847-1931) established the Edison Botanic Research Corporation to produce rubber following World War I. Harvey Firestone and Henry Ford took an interest in Edison's work, but by the time of Edison's death in 1931, he still hadn't developed a domestic rubber source.
