Theodore Roosevelt Typed Letter Signed with holographic notations and postscript. One page, 8" x 10.5", on United States Civil Service Commission letterhead, Washington, March 11, 1894, to W. H. Hotchkiss of the Republican League regarding a dinner that he missed as he was out of town: "The memory of the my last dinner at Baltimore Buffalo is most pleasant, and I should particularly like to have spoken on such a subject before a club which I am so proud to feel is in the same party as myself, and at the beginning of a campaign as important as ours is this year." He adds a short postscript below his signature which reads: "This year the stars in their courses fight in our favor!" Smoothed folds. Light staining of upper left corner.

The midterm election of 1894 was the largest victory in United States history. The Republican Party gained 130 seats in the House to the Democrats loss of 125 seats. This realignment set the stage for a Republican victory in 1896 with the election of Republican William McKinley as president.
