    Description

Theodore Roosevelt Typed Letter Signed, "T. Roosevelt." One page, 8" x 10.5", Camp Wikoff, Montauk, Long Island; September 6, 1898. Letter from Roosevelt (1858-1919), who had just returned from Cuba as colonel of the "Rough Riders" who fought in the Spanish-American War, and were briefly quarantined in Camp Wikoff due to the U.S. War Department's fear of spreading yellow fever. The letter is addressed to Frederick A. Stokes Company, a New York publisher, which probably approached Roosevelt about writing a book about his war experiences. Roosevelt replied "I am exceedingly sorry, but have already engaged with the Scribners."

Condition: Letter has the usual folds, with toning along middle horizontal fold; otherwise good.
