Theodore Roosevelt Photograph Signed as President. Measuring 4" x 5.5", Roosevelt is seen in a chest up portrait turned slightly to his right. At the lower right corner of the image is a 1903 Bell Photographic Co. stamp. Roosevelt has inscribed on the 6" x 7.25" C.M. Bells mount directly below the image, "Wishing you many happy new years / from / [signed] Theodore Roosevelt / Jan 11th 1906." Later that year, Roosevelt won the 1906 Nobel Peace Prize for his work in negotiating the peace treaty between Japan and Russia ending the Russo-Japanese War.

Condition: Several small spots of staining are seen near the lower edge of the image; .25" tear at the left edge. The upper right corner of the mount is missing and a portion of the left edge of the mount is broken in two places, but still attached. Restoration work has been performed on the verso. There is some wear along the left, lower, and right margins.

We had a wonderful time in New York during the October 2013 Historical Manuscripts auction that featured my mother’s papers collected during her tenure as Martin Luther King, Jr.’s secretary. In fact, the entire experience from beginning to end has been a pleasure.
