    Description

Theodore Roosevelt: 1906 Typed Letter Signed as President. TLS, 2p., Washington, D.C., December 14, 1906, written on White House bifolium stationery to Mrs. W. Emlen Roosevelt of New York City, likely a relative of the President. In it, TR references the Nobel Peace Prize money he received for negotiating the end of the Russo-Japanese War. "... I hope you approved of the disposal I made of the prize money... [he gave it to Congress for the establishment of an Industrial Peace Committee which never occurred - eventually he directed that the funds be given to the American Red Cross and other World War I support organizations]... I am having my usual hard time in trying to get any agreement among business men and bankers as to what currency legislation is needed..." Sold together with the original transmittal envelope addressed from the White House.
