THE BOY SCOUTS RECEIVE SCOTT’S SHIP "THE DISCOVERY." BADEN-POWELL TLS WITH GREAT CONTENT.. " BADEN-POWELL, Sir ROBERT. Founder of the Boys Scouts. This is a framed presentation of a three-page Typed Letter Signed BADEN POWELL, 10 March 1937, on "Governor’s Camp United Provinces [India] "stationery, to Lord Wakefield. In this letter with great content, Baden Powell talks about the Scout movement in India, the financial problems of the organization, and the contribution of a historic treasure to the Scouts. He also solicits financial aid from his long-time friend. In part: "Just before I left England to complete this Scout organization in India, I was offered as a gift to the Scout Movement Captain Scott’s old ship, the ‘Discovery’. I jumped at the chance of getting a Sea Scout Headquarters and training centre on a ship with such inspiring tradition, and at the same time of keeping her as a national memorial to Scott and other heroes of the Antarctic... Out here Scouting is going along exceedingly well and doing a remarkable work where it is so greatly needed in the education of these unregulated peoples. When I was last out here 16 years ago we had 15,000 Scouts; today there are 326,000, and the Girl Guides under my wife’s direction are proportionately growing in numbers and proficiency, which those who know India is a most astonishing development." Framed together with a portrait of Baden-Powell on a green fabric background. (# This item may require additional shipping charges).

We had a wonderful time in New York during the October 2013 Historical Manuscripts auction that featured my mother’s papers collected during her tenure as Martin Luther King, Jr.’s secretary. In fact, the entire experience from beginning to end has been a pleasure.
