Texas C.S.A. Circular: General Orders No. 7, Signed by Assistant Adjutant General C. H. Whittelsey. One page, 4.75" x 8", "Headquarters Department of Texas, Galveston, Texas, September 11th 1865." Docketed on verso. Following the surrender of Confederate forces in April 1865, the Army of the Department of Texas went through necessary changes. This set of general orders reflects some of those changes. In part: "Headquarters of the Central District of Texas will be changed from Victoria to San Antonio, Texas. . . . District Commanders are hereby authorized to approve furloughs for the enlisted men under their command, the number granted not to exceed ten (10) per cent of those present for duty. . . . District Commanders will hereafter forward to these Headquarters . . . copies of all General and Special Orders issued by them, and of all orders in the form of official letters; the series to commence with August 6th 1865." Signed in ink "C.H. Whittelsey" as "Bvt. Col. And Asst. Adjt. Genl." An excellent Texas Civil War item in very fine condition.
