Description

Susan B. Anthony Letter Signed "Susan B. Anthony". One page, 5.5" x 8.5", on National Woman Suffrage Association letterhead, Rochester [New York], September 24, 1888. Ms Anthony signs a letter accompanying a copy of the Association's council report. It reads in full: "My dear friend, The N.W.S.A. presents you with a bound Report of the Council as a beautiful souvenir. A Contribution to defray expressage etc. will be appreciated. Hoping to hear of its safe arrival I am yours sincerely, Susan B. Anthony". The paper has toned and mounting remnants on the verso have bled onto the recto along the edges, affecting only the very beginning and ending lines of the text and the "thony" of Ms. Anthony's signature, otherwise the letter is legible and in very good condition. From the Judith Kaplan Women's History Collection.

We had a wonderful time in New York during the October 2013 Historical Manuscripts auction that featured my mother’s papers collected during her tenure as Martin Luther King, Jr.’s secretary. In fact, the entire experience from beginning to end has been a pleasure.
