    Stephen F. Austin Autograph Promissory Note Signed Twice "Stephen F. Austin." One page, 7.75" x 3.75", [n.p.], [n.d.]. Stephen Austin, who signs once in the text and once as an endorsement on the reverse, writes this promissory note to Martin Ruggles of Caledonia, Missouri, for $700. The left edge of the document is missing, as is at least one word of text. Some staining and minor soiling. The paper at the "F." of the signature on the reverse has been repaired. The document reads in full: "Sixty days after date I promise to pay Stephen F. Austin or order Seven Hundred Dollars payable and negotiable in the Bank of St. Loui . . . [missing text] defalcation for value red. [Signed] Martin Ruggles."
