Stephen F. Austin Autograph Document Signed. One page, 8" x 3.5", n.p., November 12, 1828. Austin writes this note to M. B. Nuckols concerning Robert Kuykendall (both Nuckols and Kuykendall
were part of Austin's original "Old Three Hundred" colonists). The document reads, "I will settle fifteen dollars with you on Robt. Kuykendalls account if it will suit you to arrange what he owes you in that way." On the verso is written, "S. F. Austin/ Note/ $15.00." Earlier in 1826, Kuykendall had been seriously injured in an Indian fight. Likely because of those injuries and the hardships they caused, Austin benevolently paid this account.

Austin moved to Texas in 1821 to colonize his father's Mexican land grant. By the time this document was signed in 1828, the empresario was involved in the exhaustive management, both civil and military, of his colonists, who lived on nearly 300 land grants. This document has an uneven lower margin and chip to the right edge.
