A letter written while in command of the USS Delaware addressed to John Barry. It reads: "I have to acknowledge the receipt of your favor of this date and thank you for your polite attention in communicating to me a 'Paragraph' of your orders. The orders rec'd by me on the 26 ult. from the Secretary of the Navy, were similar to the paragraph you have informed me of. Should you be out on the 10th Inst. I shall endeavor to fall in with you."

With holographic postscript, "I should have waited on you previous to my departure, but understanding you were indisposed, I was apprehensive of disturbing you."
