A letter, John Steele, Collector of Philadelphia, Treasury Department: "Sir / Enclosed I transmit for your information, an extract of a letter this moment received from the collector of New York." Crawford was the Secretary of the Treasury from 1816 to 1825, during James Monroe's administration.
Condition: Toned throughout, darker at edges, with slight foxing. Very minimal separation of paper at edge along folds.
