Curtis- one of two dissenters in the Dred Scott case, defended Andrew Johnson at the impeachment proceedings (10 page 1866 LS); Mahlon Pitney (1912 ALS); Horace H. Lurton- served in the Confederate Army during the Civil War (Signature as Justice); Robert H. Jackson- chief U.S. prosecutor at the Nuremberg Trials (2 Signatures on Supreme Court cards); Harold H. Burton (TLS on Senate letterhead); Hugo L. Black- the fourth longest-serving Justice in U.S. history (Signature on Supreme Court card); and David Davis- appointed by Abraham Lincoln to the Court (1881 Signature as Illinois senator).
