TWELVE AUTOGRAPH ITEMS FOR PRESIDENTIAL AND VICE PRESIDENTIAL CANDIDATES, 1872-1968. Consisting of: 1) 1860- dated receipt for a subscription to his beloved Tribune, signed by Horace Greeley (clearly these receipts were not usually signed by Greeley. The signature line is marked "For the Proprietors." So, "The Rev. JB Dobbins," who bought this subscription, got special treatment!). 2) Fine June 28, 1884 campaign longhand letter from James G. Blaine, thanking "My Dear General: for his support. 3) 1933 TLS, a letter of condolence from John W. Davis, 1924 Democratic Presidential nominee. 4) 1933 TLS from Hoover’s VP, Charles Curtis, on VP letterhead, responding to an autograph request. 5) 1940 TLS from Wendell Willkie, thanking for letter of regret at Willkie’s loss to FDR. 6) John Brickner, 1952 TLS on Senate stationery. Excellent, detailed content about pending legislation. 7) 1936 Alben Barkley TLS, on Senate stationery. Barkley, later Truman’s VP, thanks the writer for a letter of congratulation of Barkley’s 1936 Democratic National Convention keynote address! "We had a wonderful convention, and I am con- fident we will have a wonderful victory in November." Nice! 8) Scarce 8 x 20" c. 1948 original wire photo, boldly signed in blue ink by Earl Warren and his wife. 9) Estes Kafauver 1956 TLS, on Stevenson-Kefauver campaign letterhead. Asks for active support of a Massachusetts democratic politician. 10) 1960 Adlai Stevenson TLS, on his personal letterhead, thanking the writer for urging him to seek the Presidential nomination, but reiterating his intention not to do so. 11) Secretarial George Wallace TLS, on campaign letterhead. Written in December, 1967, but already appealing for support for his "Stand Up for America" program. 12) Autopen-signed Nelson Rockefeller 8 x 10." An appealing group, with some nice content! Group LOA from Spence/Grad PSA DNA.
