DescriptionSupreme Court Justice Horace Gray Document Signed "Horace Gray Jr." Two pages. 7.75" x 9.75". On light blue lined paper. Circa 1859. Horace Gray, nominated by President Chester A. Arthur to serve as a Supreme Court Justice from 1881 until 1902, signs this petition, along with 38 other members of the Suffolk [Massachusetts] bar.
Many prominent lawyers of the day have signed the document which recommends a colleague to fill a vacancy on the Police Court. They include Rufus Choate, Jr., Ben J. Abbott, Lemuel Shaw, Jr., and Josiah Quincy. With the usual fold creases, otherwise in fine condition.
