Description

Sterling C. Robertson Manuscript Document Signed on seal paper of the state of Coahuila y Tejas, Sello Tercero. One page with signed endorsement on the verso, 8.5" x 12.75". Monclova, March 22, 1834. Written in Spanish, the document is a request from Sterling as "member and agent of the Nashville Company for the colonization of land in the department of Texas", as within his rights, for a copy of the certificate of representation of "Don Estevan Austin" in which he requests "a validation of his last contract with the government of the state to colonize Texas; as well as the said contract, in which is included the lands of the said company and the rest of the documents used to support his claims." Robertson signs at the bottom. A docket on the verso approves Robertson's request.

Robertson had previously attempted to settle 200 families in Texas, but his contract was annulled and transferred to Stephen Austin. In 1834 he obtained a new contract for colonization, and the document offered here is likely related to his petition for that contract.

Condition: Flattened folds, with creasing and chipping at margins. A few small tears. Ink remains bold, and overall appearance of document is attractive.
