Description
Samuel Huntington Autograph Letter Signed. "Saml. Huntington, Governor". One page, period docketed on the verso, 8" x 12.75". Norwich, Connecticut; March 29, 1794. Huntington, 18th Governor of Connecticut and American Revolutionary, writes to a Major General Hart, "or his commanding officer within the limits of his Regiment", requesting he review a copy of "a Resolution of Congress lay an embargo" and references President Washington, declaring that he had "received directions from the Supreme executive of the United States to compel a strict obedience to, & compliance with, the embargo." Later he urges Hart to "enforce obedience to the Resolution of Congress and at the same time prevent any unnecessary force or violence."Condition: Heavily toned, with smoothed folds, some ink smudging, and a chipped upper-left corner.
