Sam Houston Land Grant Signed "Sam Houston." One page, 12" x 15", Nashville; August 26, 1828. Land grant numbered 8454. Houston signs as Governor of Tennessee and grants 75 acres of land in Lincoln County to an Andrew J. Davis. With red wax-based paper Seal of the State of Tennessee intact at the top left corner. Countersigned by David Graham as secretary of state.

Prior to his arrival in Texas, Houston served one term as governor of Tennessee. Having decided to run for reelection in 1829, he reversed his decision after his eleven week marriage to nineteen year old Eliza Allen suddenly ended. He is currently the only man in U.S. history who has served as governor of two states (he served as governor of Texas from December 1859 until March 1861).

Condition: Foxing, toning and partial separation along the folds, with some separations repaired with archival tape on verso. Large and bold signature by Houston.
