    Description

    Sam Houston Autograph Document Signed as the third president of the Republic of Texas. One page, 7.75" x 8.5", Washington, July 24, 1843, requesting payment to "Mr. J[ames]. H. Raymond / Acctg. Treasurer." Houston writes, "You will please to pay to Danl. J. Tolar esq. Twenty four Dollars in Exchequer out of my salary fund on Deposit, and this shall be your voucher. Your obt servt. [signed] Sam Houston." Below Houston's signature, Daniel Tolar[?] wrote on the next day, "Received of Jas. H. Raymond Actg Treasurer the above amount in Exchequers." Houston's large signature and paraph are boldly written. Matted and framed to an overall 11" x 12". Toned with smoothed folds.
