    Roger B. Taney Autograph Letter Signed. One page, recto and verso, 7.75" x 9.5" (sight), Washington; February 22, 1825. The letter is addressed to Richard Caton of Baltimore, where Taney discusses a case regarding a Mrs. Patterson in detail. Taney was working as a lawyer in Maryland at the time of this letter. He was appointed the Attorney General of Maryland a mere two years later. It reads in part: "I must beg leave to refer Mr. Spear to the answer put in on behalf of Mrs. Patterson...and in the case of original Bill we should have a right to oppose if the Chancellor decides against us..." Signed, "R. B. Taney." Matted and framed with an image of Taney to the overall size of 21.25" x 17.25". Not examined outside of the frame.

    Condition: Small dampstain at upper right corner. Smoothed folds.
