DescriptionRobert Todd Lincoln Letter Signed as Secretary of War. One page, on War Department letterhead, 5" x 7.5", Washington, April 7, 1882, to Colonel N. L. Anderson. Lincoln pens a cover letter to accompany a letter he forwards to Col. Anderson. The paper has toned and the letter displays the usual fold creases, otherwise it remains bright and Lincoln's signature is quite bold.
He writes, in part: "Here is a letter written by a gentleman who has evidently had plenty of time to write...Can you tell me anything about the matter?"Robert was Abraham Lincoln's only son to live past his teenage years, and in an odd twist of fate, was present or nearby three presidential assassinations.
