DescriptionRobert E. B. Baylor Autograph Endorsement Signed on a court filing. Two pages, 7.75" x 12.5"; circa 1849. A legal filing in the Washington District Court, Fall Term 1849; Daniel Wheeler v. Joseph H. Wood & others, presenting facts of the case. Baylor endorses the document on the second page: "I certify the foregoing to be the facts produced on the trial of the above cause. R.E.B. Baylor / Judge." At the time, Baylor was serving as judge of the Third Judicial District. Together with a period fair copy in an unknown hand of an affidavit filed in Baylor's court. Written on a single sheet, 7.75" x 4.5", likely removed from a larger sheet. From the Robert E. Davis Collection.
Condition: Document containing Baylor's endorsement has the usual folds and stray ink stains. Second document has light dampstaining.
Baylor (1793-1873) was converted at a Baptist revival meeting in 1839; later that year, he became a Baptist minister and moved to Texas. With Baylor's leadership, Baylor University, a Baptist university, was established in 1845 at Independence, Texas.
