Republic of Texas Land Transaction Signed by Daniel Montague. Three pages, 7.75" x 9.75", August 5, 1847, "Republic of Texas Fannin County". Toned with some foxing; some weakness at the folds. Good.

    More Information:

The land transaction reads in small part: "Plot and field notes of a survey of three hundred & twenty acres of land Surveyed for James Ball . . . issued by the board of land commissioners of Fannin to Isaac Houston." On page two, Daniel Montague signs the document certifying that he has "examined the foregoing plot & field notes and find them correct". On the last page, James Ball writes a bill of sale transferring the "with in [sic] described tract of land" to "Hale and Co."

Daniel Montague (1798-1876) worked as a surveyor in Louisiana before answering a call to join Sam Houston's army in the Texas Revolution. After the revolution, he settled in Fannin County as a surveyor. He later fought in the Mexican War and served north Texas as a politician. In October 1862, Montague was selected to direct a jury in Gainesville which hanged forty accused Texas Unionists in an affair known as the Great Hanging at Gainesville. During Reconstruction, all of the jurors except Montague were tried for the affair.

The pre and post sales experience was wonderful and flawless. Heritage has the best in-house operation I have ever seen and their people are not only professional but fun to work with, especially Steve C.

As for Heritage's online system… Yes the interface is more complex than what we are used to with SAN but what is behind that interface is amazing for sellers and buyers alike. It is real time and for a real serious auction buyer there is nothing better in the auction industry, bar none.
