Pope John XXIII Signed Apostolic Blessing. 8.5" x 14", February 9, 1959. Angelo Giuseppe Roncalli (1881-1963) was elected as 261st Pope of the Catholic Church in Vatican City on October 28, 1958. He called the Second Vatican Council (Vatican II) in 1962, but didn't live to see its completion. The calligraphy on the document reads in full: "Most Holy Father / Mrs. Helen Hogan Barasa / humbly prostrate at the feet of Your Holiness beg the Apostolic Blessing / Peramanter in Domino" and the signature, in Latin, reads "Ioannes pp. XXIII". The document, which includes a 4.25" x 6.25" color photograph of Pope John and an embossed seal to the left of the signature, is in very good condition with one horizontal crease across the photo and some minor fading.
