Description

    Patrick Henry Land Grant Signed "P Henry" as governor of Virginia. One partially-printed page, 12.5" x 15.75" (sight), Richmond, June 1, 1785, granting "John White assignee of John Stratler a certain Tract or parcel of Land, containing Two hundred and Thirty nine Acres . . . being in the County of Monogalia [modern West Virginia]." Wax seal of the Commonwealth of Virginia near the lower left corner. Matted with an engraved portrait of Henry and framed to an overall size of 25.75" x 22.75".

    Condition: Henry's signature is fading slightly, but is still entirely legible. Separation of the folds, with minor paper loss at the intersections, has been repaired using archival tissue on the verso. Unevenly toned. Ink bleed-through from docketing on the verso. Spot of water staining near the upper left corner and one dark staining spot near the middle of the document.
