Pat Garrett Autograph Letter Signed "P.F. Garret." This 6" x 9" letter was written by Pat Garrett, the man who is best known for killing Billy The Kid. The letter is one page, written on both sides in pencil, to Garrett's wife. A portion of the letter reads, "I have been so busy, it seemed I could not get time to write to you. We leave here today to go to Belton. Won two races with Blue Eyes Winnie ran third in her race Charley Maddox 4th in his and H.S. 4th in his. People here found out that Blue Eyes was fast so there was no chance to win much on him."Pat Garret was a well-known sharpshooter and frontiersman. Sadly, he met one of the more unfortunate ends in the history of the West. In 1908, on his ranch in Las Cruces, while urinating, he was shot in the back of the head by Wayne Brazel. Brazel was arrested but claimed self-defense and was acquitted. Garrett's biographer, Leon Metz, dryly commented, "The only time in history a man has been assassinated while urinating that the defendant claimed self defense."
There is an old vaquero saying which goes, "Escupe en el cielo y regresara." It means, "Spit in the sky and it returns!" And that simply means do not spit into the wind. Pat Garrett's life and death are examples of this little idiom. In great condition, a wonderful letter by a character whose escapades and death are legend! Do not miss your chance to own this piece of history. Accompanied by LOA from PSA/DNA.
