Description

    Pair of Bank of the United States Documents Signed by Boudinot and Bradford. Elias Boudinot and William Bradford, two pages, 6.75" x 8.5", Pennsylvania, June 9, 1792. Elias Boudinot who in 1783, as President of the Continental Congress, signed the Treaty of Paris and William Bradford, George Washington's Attorney General are the men of note on this pair of documents. This is a two page, attached back to back pair of manuscript documents, appointing John Kean as Cashier of the Bank of the United States. The first document is signed by both Boudinot and Bradford, and the other mated on this double sided sheet by Bradford only, with the paper covered in red wax seals. The front side reads: "Know all men by the Presents that I, Elias Boudinot of Elizabeth Town New Jersey do constitute & appoint John Kean Esq. Cashier of the Bank of the United States my true and lawful attorney for me & in my name to receive all such Interest money, as may be due to me on the first day of July next, on the stock I am possessed of in the Funds of the United States, and to convey carry the sd. Monies so received to my Credit in the book of the U.S. Bank. - And I do hereby promise to confirm whatever my sd. Attorney shall lawfully do in the Premesis and to acknowledge all & every the receipt or the receipts he shall give in Discharge thereof in as Witness my Hand and Seal this Twenty Ninth Day of June Anno Domini One Thousand Seven Hundred & Ninety Two."

    The second document on the verso has the witnessing in the presence of. Bradford's signature is quite rare. Also included with this lot is an early engraving of William Bradford by Edwin. The documents are in very fine condition; light overall toning; moderate edge wear; wax seals intact; usual folds are present; darker toning around fold lines.
