Mirabeau Lamar Texas Republic Government Bond Signed as the second president of the Republic of Texas. One page, 9.5" x 6.5", January 1, 1841, Austin. Lamar served as president from 1838 through 1841. During his administration, the capital of Texas was moved from the newly named Houston--the namesake of Sam Houston--to Austin, a move supported by Lamar since Sam Houston was one of his leading critics. This bond, listed as "No. 531" and countersigned by "Wm. Levey" as acting secretary of Treasury, contains several punch cancellations. Two complete coupons are present; two coupons are partially missing as a result of the punch cancellations; one coupon is completely missing. The remains of a large tape repair on the verso of the horizontal fold has bled-through and is obvious from the front. With Texas-themed vignettes; near very good.
