Louis Brandeis Signed Harris & Ewing Photo. A handsome portrait of this jurist and Zionist, 7.25" x 10.25", with the Harris & Ewing blindstamp, signed in the lower margin "Louis D. Brandeis". Brandeis was born in Louisville, Kentucky to Polish immigrants. Graduating from high school with honors at age 14, he then traveled to Europe and attended school in Dresden before returning to the U.S. and graduating from Harvard with the highest marks of any student to ever attend there. In 1908, acting as a litigator in the case Muller v. Oregon, he collected empirical data from hundreds of sources in what became known as the "Brandeis Brief," the first time social science had been used in the United States, in law. In 1916, Woodrow Wilson appointed him to the Supreme Court. The first Jewish justice, he served until 1939. This photo is in fine condition with just a bit of silvering, still in the original photographer's folder. Accompanied by LOA from PSA/DNA.
