Lewis Morris writes to his son

Lewis Morris Autograph Letter Signed. Two pages, approximately 13"x 8", Newport, June 16, 1795. This lengthy personal letter to his son discusses family members, horses, hay, cloth, and shoes. In part: "The night after we got over the Barr we had a very rough Sea and the next day poor Shadow fell and his Stable gave way, and I was without all hopes of him but by my contrivance and exertion of the Capt. we got him on his Legs, after that he stood well the rest of the voyage and is now at Morrisania... I have sent you a quantity of hay in Bundles, it is very good. I hope it will get to you in good order... I am now on the look out for some patterns of Negro Cloth. I shall send Nancey a quantity of low Cloth, it is very good and I am to have the picking of it... Oh tell Nancey her shoes are not done. I was mortified and very angry with the Shoemaker for disappointing me..." Letter is lightly toned and very boldly penned. Separated at fold.
