    Description

Judah P. Benjamin Partial Autograph Petition Affidavit Signed "Benjamin." Two pages, 7.75" x 12.25", [New Orleans], circa 1836. The future Confederate secretary of state was a young New Orleans lawyer when he drew up this petition certifying that William Frame, William Pierson, and Isaac Smith owe his client, William H. Sheppard, "a balance due in his favor of twelve hundred and seventy-five dollars and thirty cents" which the aforesaid men are "justly liable to pay . . . and which they have promised to pay, but which they neglect to do." The first page of the petition appears to be missing. Heavily toned along the folds. Chipping at the edges have been archivally repaired. Detachment along the main horizontal fold has been repaired at the edges. Staining along the right edge.

This was my first time dealing with an auction house, and I am 100% completely impressed with Heritage. There is not an aspect of this process that I have a critique for.
