Description

John Morton and John Penn Document Signed "John Morton Speaker" and "John Penn" as Governor and Commander in Chief of the Province of Pennsylvania, 13 pages, 7.75" x 12.75", separate sheets; with a separate page bearing filing dockets. [Philadelphia, Pa.], June 29, 1775. A lengthy manuscript document being: "An act for confirm[ing] the Estate of Daniel Andrew in & to certain Lands in Amity Town-ship in the County of Ber[ks] Whereas the Proprietaries of the Province of Pennsylvania by their Patent bearing Date the twentyeighth day of O[ctober], One thousand seven hundred and one, granted a certain Tract of Land Situate in Amity Town-ship." [Document in square brackets signifies missing text along right margin.] The manuscript goes on to follow the various land transfers that have occurred since the initial grant was issued, and petitions Governor Penn to bar any claims on the by anyone other than Daniel Andrew, the original recipient of the grant. Joseph Shippen's signature on page thirteen attests that the Governor passed the Act on June 29, 1775.

The document is fragile, with chipping along the right margins of all pages resulting in a few lost letters. Very delicate at folds, with separations thereat. Toning throughout.
