One-half page, 7.75" x 10", on blue, lined paper with "Head Quarters, State of Mississippi" letterhead, Jackson, August 6, 1862. Special Order No. 1911 given by Pettus as "Govr & Commander-in-Chief" of Mississippi forces and addressed to Colonel Benjamin King at Camp Bruce, the order reads in full:
You will detail Wm. T. Stokes of Captain Bradley's Company in your Regiment and order him to report without delay to Col. P. S. Layton Chief of Ordnance at this point."
