DescriptionJohn J. Pettus Autograph Letter Signed as Governor of Mississippi to Confederate President Jefferson Davis. "John J. Pettus." One page, 8.5" x 11", n. p, May 3, 1862, regarding the raising of troops. The governor writes in full:
"Sir It is my desire to organize bands of Partisan Rangers in the river counties in this state.
" Under an act of Congress approved April 21st 1862 you are authorized to call such organizations into service. Feeling assured you will see the necessity of such organizations in the river counties of this state, request you accede to my calling into service such parties without delay.
"I also desire to exempt from conscription any persons who may join these bands, of Partisan Rangers, so long as such organizations may be absolutely necessary for the defence and protection of the counties of this State bordering on the Mississippi River."

As for Heritage's online system… Yes the interface is more complex than what we are used to with SAN but what is behind that interface is amazing for sellers and buyers alike. It is real time and for a real serious auction buyer there is nothing better in the auction industry, bar none.
