DescriptionJohn Hancock Military Appointment Signed as Governor of Massachusetts. One partially printed page, 13.3" x 13", March 31, 1788, appointing "Jeremiah Daniels...Ensign of a Company of the Sixth Regiment of the First Division of the militia in this Commonwealth comprehending the County of Suffolk." The appointment is countersigned by John Avery, Jr. as secretary. Hancock's signature is featured under the seal of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts in the left margin of the document. On the verso of the appointment the following is written in ink: "Suffolk...September 8th 1788 then the within named Jeremiah Daniel took & subscribed the Oath Required by Law to Qualify him to act in the within mentioned office Before me. John Boyd Lieut. Col."
Condition: Separations at the folds have been repaired with archival tissue. Very minor loss of text. Uneven toning along left and bottom edges of the document; and minor foxing around the middle right edge of the document.
