    Description

John C. Fremont Letter Signed "J. C. Fremont, Maj. Genl. Comd." One page of a bifolium folded down to 5" x 8", "Head Quarters", July 29, 1864. The letter is addressed to Richard Yates, the Governor of Illinois, thanking him for previous information. Both men possessed strong anti-slavery sentiments and during this year, Fremont ran against Lincoln as a Radical Republican, a party faction which believed abolitionism was progressing too slowly. Excellent condition, light age toning and smoothed folds.
