James Livingston Signed 1774 Masonic Appointment. One page, 9.25" x 5.5", partially printed on vellum, dated March 6, 1774, bearing the seal of the lodge, slightly toned, with one small area of loss at the lower right corner, some fading to signatures, and with the usual fold creases, else very good condition. James Livingston, as Master of Solomon's Lodge 1 of Poughkeepsie, Duchess County, New York, welcomes James Oliver as a new member. James Livingston (1747-1832) was a Revolutionary War soldier, who as a colonel was present at the Battle of Stillwater in 1777 and the surrender of Burgoyne the same year. Livingston was in command of Verplanck's Point on the Hudson River in September, 1780 when he played an unwitting role in unmasking Benedict Arnold's treachery. Livingston's men fired on a British sloop of war transporting Major John André to a clandestine meeting with Benedict Arnold, forcing the vessel to retreat southwards. André was thus forced to travel by land to New York and was captured with papers in his possession which incriminated Arnold. The former was hanged, the latter escaped to the British lines.

The pre and post sales experience was wonderful and flawless. Heritage has the best in-house operation I have ever seen and their people are not only professional but fun to work with, especially Steve C.

As for Heritage's online system… Yes the interface is more complex than what we are used to with SAN but what is behind that interface is amazing for sellers and buyers alike. It is real time and for a real serious auction buyer there is nothing better in the auction industry, bar none.
