DescriptionJacob Broom Land Indenture Signed "Jaco: Broom" as a witness. One vellum page, 27.25" x 14.25", New Castle [Delaware], February 21, 1786, transferring from "Elizabeth May...widow of Caleb May dead, Caleb May the son, and Sarah his Wife all of the one part and Joshua Wollaston...of the other part...Several Lots or peices [sic] of Land." Countersigned by Elizabeth May, Caleb May, and Sarah May. Damage to right vertical fold has resulted in minor paper and text loss. Lightly toned, especially along the folds.
Jacob Broom (1752-1810), a pacifist Quaker, was a signer of the United States Constitution during the 1787 Constitutional Convention. While his religious leaning prevented him from participating in combat, he prepared detailed maps for the Delaware region for General Washington.
More Information: Broom's autograph is rare in any form, one of the rarest of all signers of the Constitution.
